Development of a Multi-Market Financial Indicator System Recognized by Industry Experts

Around 2008, Dr. Alexander Elder, a world-renowned trader, challenged the international investment community to adapt his New Highs-New Lows (NH-NL) indicator—an essential tool for assessing the health of the U.S. market—to non-American markets. This had never been done before and presented a significant technical challenge: creating a system to obtain, process, and calculate the indicator for entirely different financial ecosystems.

I accepted this challenge and became the first person to successfully solve it. I independently designed and developed a robust system using MS Excel and Access that automated the entire process. The system connected to Yahoo Finance to extract daily stock data from the Brazilian Bovespa, processed the data, and accurately calculated the NH-NL index according to Dr. Elder's methodology.

After success with the Brazilian market, I expanded the system's capabilities to generate the NH-NL indicator for several other international markets, including Australia, Canada, and China—among others—and began publishing these charts weekly for the trading community.

I delivered the functional system to Dr. Elder, who personally reviewed, approved, and praised the solution. My work was subsequently featured in his official e-book on the indicator (now in its second edition).

This project established a new and valuable tool for the international trading community and gained recognition and validation from the highest level of industry experts, who went on to consume the charts and establish analyses.
